This privately owned museum is located in Oxnard, CA and was established in 2010. Peter W. Mullin, a philanthropist and businessman, displays his own personal car collection in the museum. This includes vintage Bugattis which are a major attraction and many of the cars are drivable as they’ve been fully restored.
The whole atmosphere of the 50,000 sq foot building features solar panels and reflective roofing, while the interior has an Art Deco style to go with the era of the vehicles inside. In addition to the cars, the Museum also features contemporary paintings and sculptures and Art-Deco furniture.
The Mullin Automotive Museum now features The Art and Times of the French Coachbuilders. More than 30 vehicles and decorative works make up this collection and allows viewers to examine the artistic and cultural progression that inspired this particular collection.
More than 140 objects make up the Mullin Collection and many of the vehicles in the Museum have won prestigious awards throughout the world. It’s also worth mentioning that a number of the cars have also won historic races.
The Museum is also a venue option if you’re looking for a local place to host a memorable event. Whether the event is a corporate meeting, private party or reception, nonprofit event, memorial service or even a seminar, the Mullin Automotive Museum would make a great location to host your event.
Local Oxnard residents that have a passion for these cars can apply to be a docent and share their passion with others. The docents currently at the Museum are among the best and help tell the story of every vehicle so visitors get a deep understanding of the vehicle’s past and significance.
Gems From The Mullin Collection is a current exhibit that features a group of rare vehicles including a Hispano-Suiza, Delahaye, Talbot-Lago, Bugatti and Delage. Or take in the prewar exhibit of Andre Dubbonet’s Saoutchik boied 1938 Xenia.
According to Google, the Museum has a 4.8 rating out of over 100 reviews which confirms this is a great place to visit, even if you’re not necessarily into the 20’s and 30’s French cars. The knowledgeable docents make the experience that much better because visitors get a true depiction of the car’s history and not a basic overview of what the vehicle is. They get the actual history behind the automobile.
Parking is free and the building is wheelchair accessible. Beautiful bathrooms inside if needed and the guided tour is the best option if you want your visit to be a unique experience that you won’t soon forget.
